Walking shares with making and working that crucial element of engagement of the body and the mind with the world, of knowing the world through the body and the body through the world.

It’s almost that time of year again.  October will soon be upon us and that means Walktober!  Are you ready to walk?

Not sure what I’m talking about?  Way back in July I mentioned Walktober here.  Scroll towards the end of the post and you’ll find a small bit about it along with links to Walktobers from previous years.

In a nutshell, Walktober is a group walk.  We all go out for a walk, we all post about it on our blogs, and I round up all the posts in one big post here at my blog so we can join one another in our various walks.  I hope that’s not as confusing as it sounds.  Perhaps I should have written that we each go out for a walk, we each post about it, and I gather all the posts together in one big post here.  Is it clearer now?

The rules are fast and loose.  You don’t even have to walk.  You can run, skate, hop, skip, jump, bicycle, or any other motion that requires the energy of your body to move and stay moving.  You can even swim if that’s your preference.

Wherever you go and whatever you do, take us along with you via a blog post.  Use photos if you like or paint your pictures with words.

The dates for this year’s Walktober are October 5 through October 25.  That’s a nice long stretch that should give you plenty of time to go out for a walk and put together a blog post.  If you need more time than that, let me know.  I will gladly extend the dates.

Let me know in the comments if you’re going to participate.  It will help me to have a general idea of how many posts I’ll need to round up.

I usually take a walk in the woods for my Walktober walk, but I’m thinking about a beach walk this year.  It depends on the weather, and the fall foliage.  I noticed when I glanced out the window this morning that the sweet gum and cherry trees are already changing their colors, and even the maples are showing hints of red and orange here and there.

I reckon that’s it from me on this last day of September.  You’d hardly know it’s autumn here on the Eastern Shore.  It’s very warm (80’s), and after the morning clouds parted, we’ve had a mostly sunny day.  Sunrises and sunsets this time of year are particularly beautiful, taking on fall colors of their own.  I’ll meet you out at the dock for this evening’s sunset which is at 6:47 PM.

Thank you for visiting.  Be good, be kind, be loving.  Just Be.  🙂

Today’s joys:  Hints of autumn colors in the trees; plenty of sunshine; getting the push mower repaired which will hopefully mean it will be easier to start the next time I mow; rooibus tea; emails from friends.

  1. Wonderful strolling through here and enjoying your marvellous views, especially the dunes – hope to join you in October even if its only out and about in London

  2. I’m so behind in the blogo-verse, but I definitely would like to play! Hoping to do a catch-up post and get around to visiting all of you soon. October is a great time for walking and exploring, and you are quite generous with the dates. Is October 25th when you’d like the posts up by?

    1. I’m behind, too, Karma. I’m always behind, it seems. I’m learning to accept it. Maybe. lol! I was originally thinking the 25th as the deadline, but now that I’ve looked at the calendar again, let’s make it the 26th because it’s a Sunday and that will round things out nicely, and give everybody one last weekend. 🙂

  3. Sounds fun! Walking may be confined to Walmart around here, but I’ll sure try to post about it! Love your pictures, and I’m fond of the sunset ones — beautiful!

  4. I will really try this year. I’m thinking I’ll take Anderson along. He’s four and sees so much more than his Nana does. He’s home from pre school on Fridays so maybe we’ll venture out on a Friday.

  5. What a great idea, Robin 😉 It will be fun to see where all of these walks take us 😉 Count me in for a walking post. Love your shots of Assateague. The tree on the beach is a marvelous photo- very full of light. Best wishes, WG

  6. Here it is the 26th and I have not taken an official walk. I took a mini-stroll yesterday while the sun was out and took a few pictures. Would that count?

  7. What a great idea. Alas, I have only just learned of it, via Woodgnome/A Forest Garden. Maybe I’ll get something together by the end of the day, but no promises…I, too, am rather loosey-goosey!

    1. Hello and welcome, Eliza! If you need extra time, it’s no problem. I don’t think I’ll get to the round-up post until Tuesday or Wednesday. Or Thursday. So there’s time. 🙂

  8. Hi Robin, I see you got my pingback and hope I’m not too late – can’t wait to see all the posts together. I’ve visited a few at random and have enjoyed them. Thanks for this great idea!

  9. How come I’ve not been here before? 😦 Possibly because I’m usually in the Algarve around that time of year, and cut back on the blogging. That will be the case again this year, but I’ll make a note of the dates and pop in when I can. 🙂 🙂
