A snow day literally and figuratively falls from the sky, unbidden, and seems like a thing of wonder.
~ Susan Orlean
The rain changed over to snow early this morning, as predicted. I had to laugh when I woke up and looked out the window to see it was more than flurries. We must have gotten a good 3-4 inches when all was said and done. Big, fat, wet snowflakes fell for a couple of hours this morning and it was beautiful.
After yesterday’s post about an early spring, it was a delight and a hoot to see winter visiting with us once again. Even the birds didn’t seem to mind it. They were chattering and singing as if it was a spring day.
Around 10:30 AM, the clouds cleared, the sun came out, and the snow started melting quickly. The thaw was beautiful, especially in the woods where the sunlight made everything glow. I even heard the peepers again as it began to warm up a little.
By noon, all the snow was gone.
Nature gives to every time and season some beauties of its own.

Thank you for dropping by today for a short walk in the snow and thaw. I think sunset is going to be interesting this evening. I’ll meet you at the Point. Sunset is now at 5:30 PM. I’ll probably get there early to see the birds, if there are any birds hanging out there. Maybe we’ll get lucky and spot a few eagles.
Be good, be kind, be loving. Just Be. 🙂
Magical pictures.

That’s exactly the way I like to have snow. Just a few hours and it’s gone…. 😉 Priceless!

I think most people feel that way about snow, Gunta. 🙂

Beautiful pictures. I’ve never been able to capture the sparkely-ness when the snow is melting in the woods. You did it beautifully! We have had a lot of snow this winter, so we have been shoveling a lot. There is about 2 feet on the ground right now. We are sooo grateful for it, but did it really have to knock our gutters clear off?
Enjoy your spring!

Thank you, Mary. 🙂 Yikes about the gutters! It must have been heavy snow. The snow rarely sticks around here long enough to do any kind of damage, and we usually don’t get more than a few inches.

The best kind of snow is the snow that comes, looks beautiful for a couple of hours, then disappears. I too love the photo of the drop from the melting snow.

You got more snow than we did. The photos are wonderful, Robin. The one that is captioned “The magic sparkle. . .” looks like fairy lights. Beautiful!

Thank you, Merril. 🙂 That’s how it looked to me, too — like fairy lights in the woods. It was an amazing sight.

Unlike you, I think our snow will be with us for a while! Love your dripping, sparkly photos. That first shot is like a Monet.

Awww…my favorite of these is (of course) “rising up” and then “just right light.” We still have no snow on the ground..though it’s no longer really warm. But it’s not all that cold either. Those pesky weather people are warning us, though, that Sunday night and into next week we will be back to a normal winter. Whatever that means.

Thank you, Dawn. 🙂 They’re saying we will be getting more snow on Tuesday so perhaps it’s the same system. I think our temperatures are supposed to be more seasonable after that (40’s for highs).

Don’t like the weather, wait a minute! Always thought that was a New England thing but apparently it is working for Maryland this winter!
Got our first somewhat significant snow – 4-5 inches, really not much but compared to the rest of this winter it is.

This is my third winter here, Karma, and I think that may well be true of Maryland winters. The temperature jumps all around and you never know what kind of precipitation we might get. Looking outside today, you’d never know it snowed yesterday.
