Shadowed

Light and shadows in Washington, D.C.
Light and shadows in Washington, D.C.

I thought the most beautiful thing in the world must be shadow, the million moving shapes and cul-de-sacs of shadow.  There was shadow in bureau drawers and closets and suitcases, and shadow under houses and trees and stones, and shadow at the back of people’s eyes and smiles, and shadow, miles and miles of it, on the night side of the earth.

~ Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar

Hiding in the shadows.

It’s been a while since I’ve participated in the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge.  I couldn’t resist this week’s challenge:  Shadowed.  I wish I could tell you which building in Washington, D.C. this is, but I’ve forgotten and can’t find any hints in the pictures I took.

No matter how hard you fight the darkness, every light casts a shadow, and the closer you get to the light, the darker that shadow becomes.

~ Plato

Yesterday I was out in the woods taking photos of light and shadow, following the sunlight out to the dock so I could watch the sunset.

A quick stop at the lagoon to watch as the shadows gather.

Today’s joys:  A delicious pasta with cilantro and green onion pesto for lunch (made with love by M); a day without plans or projects; playing with the cats; snuggling; keeping warm on a frigid day.

    1. It is, Gunta, and I’m very thankful for it. M and I were very lucky to find this place. Going out to the dock makes it worth all the work we’ve had to do (and continue to do) around here. 🙂

  1. I’ve enjoyed catching up with you this week. We were back to school from holiday break this week so I’ve had less time at the computer. It was really nice having your blog posts to read this morning! Thanks! 🙂

  2. Wonderful quotation from Plato, Robin- so true. You found some amazing shots right at home. The winter sun plays with us by appearing warm when it is actually quite frozen. Stay warm! WG
