The sun shines

I love when the sun plays hide-n-seek for a few days because its invisibility often goes unnoticed.  The world seems content that its presence behind the clouds is enough.  But as soon as the brilliant sun jumps into the open sky once again, shining in full splendor, our closed eyes automatically turn toward it, and we bask beneath a warm and tender touch, grateful all the more that our glorious sun exists.

The sun has come out and it’s ready to play!  What a wonder, to feel that bright light and warmth once again.  Truthfully, it’s not that warm because the overnight clearing let whatever heat might have been here escape, and it’s windy, but the sun gives the appearance of warmth and sometimes that’s enough.

I wrapped up in lots of layers, laced up my boots, and went out to enjoy the bright light and blue sky.  While I was out and about, Izzy and Bella (the cats) were also following the sunlight around and I came back to find them sitting where they should not be sitting.

I’m sure they missed the sun as much as I did, so I felt bad chasing them off the table.  Then I didn’t feel bad because a little while later I found them there again, stretched out and sleeping.  It’s difficult to keep cats away from a perfect perch like a kitchen table where they can not only catch some rays, but watch the wildlife.

I had a little incident last night, one that sent me to one of those urgent care centers.  It was nothing serious.  I was cooking dinner, reached into the old pantry in the laundry room (which needs renovated), grabbed a can of beans, and gouged the index finger on my left hand on an old, rusty, dirty nail.  To add to the grubbiness of the situation, we’ve found evidence of mice in that closet, said evidence being the mice themselves (as well as holes chewed into bags of nuts — they seem particularly fond of cinnamon almonds).  Our Proud Mousers took out two mice a couple of weeks ago.  We haven’t seen any since, but it did seem to me that with the combination of a dirty, rusty nail, and the possibility of mouse droppings, I should give some thought to a tetanus booster.

I can’t remember the last time I got a tetanus shot.  The fact that I can’t remember means it was probably a while ago.  I went through the medical file I have, and couldn’t find any evidence of a tetanus booster within the last ten years, so I hied it off to the urgent care center where they took a look at the gouge, which made a couple of people wince because it runs through the nail bed, and got a shot in the arm.  I’m good until 2024.  Hopefully we’ll have the renovations and clean-up finished by then.  Heh.

When was the last time you had a tetanus shot?  It might be time.  Tetanus seems like an awful way to die, especially since it can be prevented.

That’s all I’ve got for today.  Thank you for stopping by, and joining me in a little sun worship.  I hope Tuesday has been bright and warm and delightful for you.  We should have a nice sunset this evening.  A storm is on the way, although nobody knows for sure yet if it will be a Big Storm or a little storm.  We’re under a Winter Storm Watch for tomorrow night and into Thursday.  Snow and sleet before a changeover to rain.  The snow, if we get it, is expected to be heavy and wet.  That could mean power outages.  We have all day today and all day tomorrow to prepare for the possibility.  We’re already mostly prepared with lots of water stored away, and wood for the wood stove ready to go.  Whatever happens, it’s supposed to be sunny and near 50 on Friday so it won’t stick around for long.
