Head in the clouds

Sweeping the sky
Sweeping the sky.  (Last night’s amazing sunset.)

When the air is hot and humid, there is a feeling of dullness and stagnation.  Everyone is oppressed by lassitude.  As the seasons begin changing, fresh air comes from the arctic.  Clouds that have been building up begin to dispense rain, and damp air is exchanged for fresh, cool breezes.  At night, the heavens are changing so quickly that lightning flashes from colliding clouds, and thunder heralds the revolving of the skies.

Conversations

Where fire turns into water
Where fire turns into water

Here, fire turns into water;
Here, the dancing of the rain declares the sun.
There’s no opposition in existence, no contradiction;
Everything supports everything else.

A glimpse of light

Sunrise this morning
Sunrise this morning

It is a strange and wonderful fact to be here, walking around in a body, to have a whole world within you and a world at your fingertips outside you.  It is an immense privilege, and it is incredible that humans manage to forget the miracle of being here.  Rilke said, ‘Being here is so much,’ and it is uncanny how social reality can deaden and numb us so that the mystical wonder of our lives goes totally unnoticed.  We are here.  We are wildly and dangerously free.

~ John O’Donohue
