Share Your World Week #46

Let's go see the old church.
Let’s go see the old church and cemetery.

If you’re reading this, if there’s air in your lungs on this November day, then there is still hope for you.  Your story is still going.  And maybe some things are true for all of us.  Perhaps we all relate to pain.  Perhaps we all relate to fear and loss and questions.  And perhaps we all deserve to be honest, all deserve whatever help we need.  Our stories are all so many things:  Heavy and light.  Beautiful and difficult.  Hopeful and uncertain.  But our stories are not finished yet.  There is still time, for things to heal and change and grow.  There is still time to be surprised.  We are still going, you and I.  We are stories still going.

For pleasure has no relish unless we share it.

Sharing with gratitude

Painting with fog
Painting with fog.  (Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.  June 2012.)

Sister, there are people who went to sleep all over the world last night, poor and rich and white and black, but they will never wake again.  Sister, those who expected to rise did not, their beds became their cooling boards, and their blankets became their winding sheets.  And those dead folks would give anything, anything at all for just five minutes of this weather or ten minutes of that plowing that person was grumbling about.  So you watch yourself about complaining, Sister.  What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it.  If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.  Don’t complain.

Sharing time

Sunset in a wavy woods. (I know it was simply camera shake, but there is a watery look to this image that I like.)
Sunset in a wavy woods. (I know it was simply camera shake, but there is a watery look to this image that I like.)

I tried to discover, in the rumor of forests and waves, words that other men could not hear, and I pricked up my ears to listen to the revelation of their harmony.

Wishes and other things

2013-11-19 November 2013
Moon setting

Wishes of one’s old life wither and shrivel like old leaves if they are not replaced with new wishes when the world changes.  And the world always changes.  Wishes get slimy, and their colors fade, and soon they are just mud, like all the rest of the mud, and not wishes at all, but regrets.  The trouble is, not everyone can tell when they ought to launder their wishes.  Even when one finds oneself in Fairyland and not at home at all, it is not always so easy to remember to catch the world in its changing and change with it.

~ Catherynne M. Valente, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making

On the islands

Egret. (Assateague)
Egret. (Assateague)

Take hold of your own life.
See that the whole existence is celebrating.
These trees are not serious, these birds are not serious.
The rivers and the oceans are wild,
and everywhere there is fun,
everywhere there is joy and delight.
Watch existence,
listen to the existence and become part of it.

~ Osho
