Walktober begins today

Sumac putting on her autumn colors.

Let’s take a walk. You can show me some of your memories and I’ll show you some of mine.

~ Adam Berlin, Number of Missing

Who can open the door who does not reach for the latch?
Who can travel the miles who does not put one foot
in front of the other, all attentive to what presents itself
continually?
Who will behold the inner chamber who has not observed
with admiration, even with rapture, the outer stone?

Well, there is time left —
fields everywhere invite you into them.

And who will care, who will chide you if you wander away
from wherever you are, to look for your soul?

~ Mary Oliver, excerpted from Have You Ever Tried to Enter the Long Black Branches?, West Wind: Poems and Prose Poems

The dewiness of October mornings.

This is it.  The official Walktober plant your link or pingback here post.  In other words, please link to this post in some way with your Walktober post.  It makes it easier for me if they are all in one place.  There are, of course, all kinds of other linky type things to help me do this, but I prefer the old fashioned method.  I’m a luddite that way.

Little by little.

Reminder.  Our dates this year are October 11th through the 25th.  If you want to get your walk in later (or if you want to use one from earlier), go for it.  Just let me know if it’s later since I’ll need to extend the dates.  I am aiming for October 29th as the date I do the wrap-up.  My alternative date is November 1st.

Please join us.  It’s always so much fun.  If you’re not familiar with Walktober, there’s a link over in the sidebar that will take you to a post that will introduce you to it.  Or, you can click on this:  Walktober.  It’s an old post but it gives you the general idea.

I think these roses are at their most beautiful in the autumn.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I might be back later in the week with a regular post.  In the meantime…

Have a great walk, ride, swim, skate, or whatever you have decided to do for your Walktober this year.  And please be safe, be well, and enjoy the beauty of wherever you find yourself.

Light in the leaves.

A few of the 10,000 reasons to be happy:  1,881)  Celebrating goddesses.  1,882)  The way the light dances on the water and through the leaves of the trees.  1,883)  Rain.  We didn’t get as much as we need, but we did get some and I am thankful for that.  1,884)  The official start to Walktober.  I’m looking forward to seeing where you go.  1,885)  M, always and forever.

A zinnia in the light and shadows.

    1. Maybe it will happen this year, Carol. 🙂 It doesn’t have to be a long walk. Or even a walk outside. Or it could be a step outside and see what’s there kind of thing.

  1. I’ve been buried in projects, but I’ll find a way to join. I’m thinking that it might be fun to return to the prairie I visited last year. I stopped by briefly last week, and it looks much different; that in itself is inviting!

  2. I’m so far behind (which is ironic since I did my walk on October 3… then another last weekend and nothing is stopping me from going this weekend, too!) However, I shall choose just one to share. Working on it this weekend (probably as the rain falls and prohibits me from enjoying the outdoors) Your images are always sublime.

    1. Thank you so much, Dale. 🙂 I’m far behind, too. I can’t keep up with myself lately. I’ve been walking, taking photos, and not finding time to do anything with them. I’m heading to the mountains soon, I hope, and maybe when I get back I’ll have time to sort through everything.

  3. We went for a walk (a very short walk) with my mom yesterday and I would love to write a Walktober blog–but just have to find the time to do it. It sounds like some of us are a little busy right now.

      1. How fun!! I’m so glad you and your mom got to join us, Kathy. I’m not sure who is following the walks right now but I do know there are usually a lot of visits after I post the round up of walks (which will be the end of this month).

  4. Followed the walking trail from Jo’s [Restless Jo] blog, which I have followed for quite a while. Walking is terrific and achievable no matter what your lifestyle. I will get around to doing more posts regarding walking. Enjoy your autumn walks. It is spring down here in New Zealand.

    1. Hello and welcome, Suzanne! Walking is one of my favorite activities. I’m so glad you followed the trail over from Jo’s. Wishing you many wonderful walks in your newly awakened spring. 🙂

    1. They are one of my favorites, too, Ally. They grow and flourish and become beautiful seemingly on their own. In other words, they’re easy for me to grow. I don’t have my mother’s green thumb and usually have a difficult time getting anything other than weeds to grow. My attitude towards weeds is part of the problem. I rarely see anything as a weed. I have a hard time pulling out what decided to come up on its own.

    1. I’ve had to do that in the past, Dawn. The walk I planned didn’t work out for whatever reason. I think I’ve used the Trail of Change at a nearby state park a couple of times for my Walktober since we moved here. No matter. It’s about getting out and sharing, so it really doesn’t matter where you go. 🙂

    1. I think you might have had more than one day to spare, Dale, but there was no way to know I’d get sick along the way. I am so glad you got your walk in (or posted, since I know that you, like me, have been taking walks and photos but haven’t been doing much with them). I’m shooting for Monday to do the round-up post, depending on how I feel.
