Soft

Soft.

Simply let experience take place very freely, so that our open heart is suffused with the tenderness of true compassion.

~Tsokniy Rinpoche II

The softness of clouds floating in the morning sky.

Day 3 of the self-care challenge.  How are you doing today?  Are you taking good care of yourself?

My self-care today was a long walk outside that included a walking partner (M) and some waving at the neighbors.  It’s interesting the way the neighbors are more available lately.  By available I mean that they’re outside, smiling and waving as I pass by.  There have been many, many (most) days when I rarely see another soul while I’m out on bicycle rides or walks on our country roads.  There have been many instances, too, of waving and saying hello to people who are out and about, and being ignored by them.  I don’t take it personally.  They might not have seen or heard me.

I also did a brief yoga and meditation practice.  It was enough for today.

Here’s a little something of interest:  On Confinement

Also, for those who might be interested in such things, Emergence Magazine is getting ready to launch some free online community offerings that include a monthly book club (the first book will be Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a book I have on my bookshelf and that I am looking forward to reading), a Nature Writing Class (free!), and a four-part facilitated workshop on the theme of vulnerability.  I can’t begin to describe how excited I am about it, all of it.  As you’ve probably already guessed, I am a big fan of Emergence Magazine.  It’s a wonderful place to spend some time.

Physical distancing.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I have no idea what sunset will look like this evening.  That’s true every evening, of course.  It has been clouding up more and more as the day progresses.  Let’s meet out at the Point anyhow.  Sunset is scheduled for 7:19 PM.  It’s a little windy and chilly today.  You’ll want a coat, probably a hat and gloves, since it’s chillier by the water.  If the sunset fizzles, at least we’ll still get a good view of the water.

Be safe, be well.  ♥♥♥

Wheat, trees, and clouds.

A few of the 10,000 reasons to be happy:  1,291)  Wheat, waving in the wind.  1,292)  Interesting clouds sweeping across the sky this morning.  1,293)  Forsythia in bloom.  1,294)  Good health.  I never take that for granted.  I bet you don’t, either.  1,295)  Today’s April Love 2020 prompt of Soft.  It softened me, somewhat, to go looking for all that is soft.

Author:

Robin is... too many things to list, but here is a start: an artist and writer; a photographer and saunterer; a daughter and sister and granddaughter; a friend, a partner, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother; a gardener, a great and imaginative cook, and the creator of wonderful sandwiches.

  1. I was thrilled to Emergence magazines offerings too Robin. So much has poured into my inbox in recent days – all of it containing thoughtful offers to widen community, to share, to learn to practise with others of like mind. I feel the web is reaching its potential to be a power for good in the world. I love your header photo. Every time I come in I look at it for several moments before being able to move on to your post. I have no clue what it is, but it is beautiful!

    1. I feel that way too, Pauline. It’s good to see the internet be used in such a way for a change, and I hope it continues this trend. The header is a photo of some turkeytail fungus/mushrooms. They are quite beautiful and come in a range of colors. I’m always on the lookout for them when I’m in the woods. They grow on fallen trees/logs.

    1. I think you will have to sign up for their newsletter and register on their website, Lisa. I didn’t take note of that when sharing the information yesterday (and will add it to my post today because I know a lot of people don’t like to register or give out their email addresses). I enjoy the emails from Emergence Magazine. Usually there is just one per week, linking to one of their stories in the latest issue.

      1. I did go look at it and realized that, but I was very taken by the article on trees and their smells, which I have lots of stories about (holly, ponderosa, spruce, little leaf linden) and it’s so nice to read about someone else experiencing the same thing. Wow. Need to meditate and exercise tonight! Didn’t get the meditation done this AM.

  2. I like the quote about allowing yourself to experience compassion. Would that we could get more people to accept this idea. The writing class sounds like something I’d enjoy. Thanks for the link.
