A Monday meander: The Walktober post

On the Bell Island Trail at Pemberton Historical Park.

You carry Mother Earth within you. She is not outside of you. Mother Earth is not just your environment. In that insight of inter-being, it is possible to have real communication with the Earth, which is the highest form of prayer. In that kind of relationship you have enough love, strength and awakening in order to change your life.

Fear, separation, hate and anger come from the wrong view that you and the Earth are two separate entities, that the Earth is only the environment. That is a dualistic way of seeing.

So to breathe in and be aware of your body and look deeply into it, realise you are the Earth and your consciousness is also the consciousness of the Earth. Not to cut the tree not to pollute the water, that is not enough.

We need a real awakening, enlightenment, to change our way of thinking and seeing things. When we recognise the virtues, the talent, the beauty of Mother Earth, something is born in us, some kind of connection, love is born. That is the meaning of love, to be at one.

This is it.  The official Post Your Link Here (right here, in the comments section of this post) for Walktober 2018.  Or link to this post and the pingback will show up in the comments section of this post.  Your choice.  If you’re confused by it all and end up doing both, that’s okay, too.  I’ll figure it out or you can ask and I’ll help you out with it.  To be honest, this whole thing has been confusing me this year.  I suspect that’s true every year.

Hints of color in the thicket.

This year’s dates are October 14th (yesterday) through the 28th.  I hope you’ll find the time to walk and participate.  (If you need more time, all you have to do is let me know.  If you’re unfamiliar with Walktober, you’ll find a link to a post about it in the sidebar, over there to the right.  Or, if you’re using your phone, maybe it’s at the bottom somewhere.)  I will probably do the round-up of the posts/walks on November 1.  That date depends on whether or not anyone needs and asks for more time.

Overlooking a sea of yellow.

As you can tell, I got my dates all mixed up.  I’ve been advertising in the Walktober reminder that I would post the official Walktober post on the 14th.  I thought the 14th was a Monday.  I was wrong.  I apologize for any mix-ups.

More hints of color.

That happens a lot — that I am wrong.  I don’t mind admitting it, either.  How about you?  Do you admit when you’re wrong?  Or are you willing to argue to the death that you’re right even when you know you’re wrong?

Crooked trail.

I am quite behind in sharing my recent walks with you.  Today’s photos are from the hike that M and I took at the Pemberton Historical Park up in Salisbury on September 29.  The park is not far from the city of Salisbury and as you can see, sometimes you feel as though you’re away from the hustle and bustle of man-made life and other times you’re walking alongside of it.

Earthly shell.

The trail was mixed, too, in terms of what we were walking upon.  Sometimes it was black earth lightly (or heavily) covered with leaves and pine needles.  Other times we were trodding in sand or upon boardwalks.

In a nutshell.

I’m going to keep this post and meander short so you don’t have to scroll down for a million minutes if you want to get to the comments to post your link.  Thank you for stopping by today.  A glimpse of the sunset doesn’t look too likely today.  We have another front moving through and it’s been cloudy with occasional rain showers for most of the day.  However, if things should change, I’ll meet you at The Point to see what kind of show Mother Nature has in mind for us this evening.  Sunset is scheduled for 6:27 PM.  It’s warm today (in the mid-70’s).  No jacket required.

Be good, be kind, be loving.  Just Be.  🙂

Looking up.

A few of the 10,000 reasons to be happy:  871)  Being able to admit I was wrong.  Sometimes that’s not always easy, but it is often a relief to do it.  872)  A morning meditation in which I learned a little about myself and my role in the great arc of time.  873)  A rafter of turkeys visiting the meadow and the front lawn today.  It looked to be about seven teenagers with their mother.  Boy, does she have her hands (wings) full.  874)  Today’s walk.  I was going to follow that with “it was nothing special,” but they’re all special in their own way.  875)  Lunch with M (which is always special).

More looking up.

  1. Lovely, as per usual. I want to take an official walk for Walktober and as I have an insane schedule (work 9 days in a row… Really, boss?) and Sunday is my next day off, so, weather permitting…

  2. Lovely post. It’s cold here, we just got home, it’s only 47 out and windy and they are predicting a freeze tonight and a bit of snow soon…just a bit. Katie will be happy. Me? Not so much. I spent some time in my flowers today knowing that they will likely be gone tomorrow. Katie did a pingback for her Walktober. She is, as usual, ahead of me in completing things on her bucket list.

    1. Thank you, Dawn. 🙂 Katie is always right on top of things. I wish I could be that prompt. It might save me from rushing around at the last minute.

  3. A pleasurable walk indeed. Loved the closeups – especially of the one with the nutshell. Mine should appear tomorrow evening, so I’ll be back to read others later.

PS: No problem on any miscommunication. I hope all the links on the other post will reconnect here.

    1. Thank you, Frank. 🙂 I’m looking forward to your walk.

I don’t think there are any other links to walks on other posts, but I’ll check to be sure. I’ve been trying to keep an eye on that, just in case. I’ll gather them all in the end and they’ll all be in one place at that point. 🙂

  4. I love that lunch is still special with M after all these years. I totally know and agree. We are so lucky to have met our soul mates when we were so young. ❤💜💛💚💙
And also appreciated your thoughts on knowing when you’re wrong and acknowledging it. Amen.

  5. Beautiful photos! I do hope to participate, but can’t until the weekend. Some idiot — me — overbooked myself most evenings this week. Sheesh.

I have some time off coming before this challenge ends and I will spend time out of doors, enjoying fall, taking photos, and walking, walking, walking. 🙂

    1. Looking forward to your walk (or walks), Tara, if you do find the time to join in. 🙂 I tend to overbook myself, too. Maybe that’s why I like winter. It gives me an excuse to hibernate.

      1. I’m the opposite — I go out more and more as the weather gets colder. Fewer people out and about. 🙂 I do like to hibernate, too, sometimes, with a good book or a show I like to watch. But I need to walk more, and Walktober is a good reason to start again!

          1. Ooohhhhhhhh. True.

I overbooked myself this week with fun stuff to do. Introvert lesson number 1,395,283: Even fun stuff needs recovery time in between. Excuse me whilst I go nap on my desk now. 🙂

  6. I’ve just discovered Walktober – reading Sallyann’s (Photographic Memories) post. I see I can still fit one in… so, I will put one together!
Thanks for taking me on a stroll and thanks for the challenge! 😉

  7. I’m so excited to see so many links here, and many from people I don’t know….I’m saving the actual reading of their posts to enjoy when I have more time…maybe after you post the collection of them. I think this is such a wonderful thing you do!

    1. I’m finding it exciting, too, Dawn! Thank you so much for spreading the word. In the past I would usually save all the posts until I was ready to do the round-up. I am so glad I didn’t do that this year. I would have trouble keeping up if I had. That’s not a complaint. I think it’s a good thing. I am thoroughly enjoying all of the different walks. 🙂
