If we were having coffee: Let’s meet at the Pocomoke River edition

Tuesday's sunrise
Tuesday’s sunrise

If you’re not beside a real river, close your eyes, and sit down beside an imaginary one, a river where you feel comfortable and safe.  Know that the water has wisdom, in its motion through the world, as much wisdom as any of us have.  Picture yourself as the water.  We are liquid; we innately share water’s wisdom.

~ Eric Alan, “Meditation Draws Its Power From the Water,” The Oregonian, September 11, 2005

Beautiful morning light.

If we were having coffee, tea, water, or some other beverage of your choice, we would be meeting near the Pocomoke River getting ready for a boat ride with a naturalist.  The tour is called Bald Pocomoke and we will be seeing a lot of Bald Cypress trees and, I hope, Bald Eagles.  There was a blurb about it in the local newspaper earlier this week, and I put it aside for future reference, but something urged me to call yesterday about future dates.  Today is the last day for a tour this year.  They had a few seats left so I made reservations for us because I decided to stop putting things off until next year since next year rolls around and we put it off again.  I don’t want my epitaph to read, “She kept putting things off until tomorrow.”

Morning devotion.

I am so glad we are going today.  The weather is wonderful.  Bright, sunny, no wind, and they say the high might reach 50°F.  I’m not counting on it, and will dress in layers since it’s always a little colder on the water.  We have a few hours before the tour begins so let’s grab something to drink and chat for a bit.  I’m going to have tea, but not too much.  The tour is on a pontoon and I suspect there are no loos available on the boat.

It is, as always, great to see you!  How are you?  What have you been doing lately?  Have you traveled anywhere?  Gone on any tours?  Explored any museums?  Gotten together with friends/family?  Have you taken any good walks or hikes?  Read any good books or watched any good movies?

I am currently reading The Eyre Affair: A Thursday Next Novel.  I just started it so I can’t really tell you much about it or even if I like it or not.  I’m only about twenty pages in, but it does seem interesting so far.  M and I haven’t watched any movies this week so nothing to report or recommend in that arena.  I’ve been nerding out on television programs such as Heroes Reborn, the return of the X-Files, and two new Syfy channel shows, The Expanse and The Magicians.  I was particular excited about The Magicians based on Lev Grossman’s books which I’ve read and liked (well, okay, the third in the trilogy wasn’t that great, but I did like the first two a lot).

If we were having coffee, tea, or something else to drink, I would apologize for not keeping up with you lately.  I know, I know.  I’m not supposed to do that (according to those who write up The Rules of Blogging).  Usually winter is the time when I do get caught up and stay caught up, but this winter has been unusually busy.  Between writing and drawing and a book project (for my father) and keeping up with things here at the ranch, my days are full and almost overflowing.  The book project should be finished soon.  It’s a book of Bible verses paired with some of my photographs which I’ll self-publish through Blurb since I’ve used them before and liked the results.

If you’ve been by this week, you know that I just completed the 3-Day Quote Challenge.  Woodland Gnome over at The Forest Garden has decided to participate so please stop by and see what she’s up to.  I’m sure you won’t regret it.  WG shares beautiful images of whatever is going on in her garden and in her area along with wonderful quotes.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that the weather has been quite variable this week.  Sun, clouds, rain, wind, cold and mild temperatures.  You might almost think it was spring the way the weather moods keep swinging around.  The weather prognosticators are predicting highs in the 60’s, perhaps even 70, by mid-week, with spring-type thunderstorms possible on Wednesday.  What happened to winter?

Some of yesterday's bubble clouds. (I'm sure they have an official name but I always think of them as bubble clouds.)

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that I just learned a family member is in the ICU in the hospital.  The poor man has had a rough time of it this past year, and the syndrome he has now, a result of the antibiotic he was on for something else, is pretty serious.  Thoughts, prayers, good energy would be appreciated.

If we were having coffee or tea or some other beverage, I would suggest we get ready to go.  We don’t want to be late for the tour.  Thank you so much for joining me for another coffee chat, and I hope to bring you some pictures from the tour soon.  If the boat tour doesn’t run too long, I might go to The Point to watch the sunset.  You’re welcome to join me.  Sunset is now at 5:23 PM.  Wow.  I didn’t realize the days had grown that much longer.  I’ll try to get there early so we can take a little walk on the beach.

This post is in response to Part Time Monster’s #WeekendCoffeeShare.  Thank you to Diana for hosting it.  Put the kettle on, start the coffee maker, open a bottle of wine, or whatever your preference is, and join us.  I’d love to hear all about what you were up to this week.

  1. Oh I just love your photography! You really have your own style of blending colors. Every single one of them is a wow. Lovely having coffee with you.
    Peace

    1. Very changeable, Betty. I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (also known as the Delmarva Peninsula), a stone’s throw from the Chesapeake Bay. My husband and I moved here almost three years ago. Prior to that we lived in northeast Ohio where Lake Erie kept us in snow for most of the winter (usually 100+ inches/year).

  2. You have me gasping like a fish out of water with your stunning photos today. Your header gobsmacked me, as did the sunrise. So much beauty surrounds you. I hope you had a good time on your tour. I’m sure you learned a lot.
I went to see the Met Opera’s ‘Turandot’ at our local theater this afternoon. Do you ever listen to opera? I discovered it about 10 years ago and now that I don’t have to go to NYC (and spend a small fortune), I get to see more performances. They really have topnotch performers. The set was incredible. They take the cameras backstage during intermission, too, which really makes you appreciate how big these productions really are.
Looks like it is going to be a warm week. I have mixed feelings about it. I always worry about the trees and shrubs breaking bud too early and then we get hit with more cold weather. No sense worrying as there isn’t much I can do about it, right? 😉

    1. Awww. Thank you so much, Eliza. 😀 This is a beautiful place, that’s for sure. It’s going to be quite warm this week, followed by a cold snap next week but, as you mention, there’s no sense worrying about it because worry doesn’t change things (especially not the weather!).

I have not listened to opera very much, and going to the theater to watch one of the Met Operas is something my husband keeps talking about doing. I’ll have to let him talk me into it next time. 😀

  3. This made me smile:

Indeed! Also, today’s LA forecast calls for thunderstorms. They’re a rare phenomenon here, so I hope I’ll get a chance to share them with my boys.

  4. What a great post with such breathtaking photographs. I agree with the epitaph and my word for 2016 is ACTION. That said, it’s all about balance and I need quite a lot of rest.
Looking forward to seeing the photos of the boatride xx Rowena

    1. Thank you, Rowena. 🙂 Yes, balance is very important although I’ve heard that we’re never really balanced in the center, just swaying back and forth in order to maintain our balance and not fall off.

      1. Robin, I really appreciate that piece of wisdom. Very insightful.
I have always been trying to get all my ducks lined up and keep them there. However, when you have them all set up like that, it doesn’t take much for the hunter to take them all out very quickly. So, a bit of scattering may not be quite so bad after all.
