A Monday meander

Shall we take a walk?
Shall we take a walk?

The opening haiku is something I put together from my search engine terms.  Search Engine Poetry is something I learned from the beautiful Christine (who, I hope, is not resting in peace but on an after-life adventure that is as active and full of discovery and wonder as her life was).  If you haven’t tried it, you should.  It’s fun, and you never know what you’ll find in your search engine terms.  I keep hoping for something awesomely weird, but I don’t write about awesomely weird stuff so it’s not likely to happen.

The queue.
The queue.

I did find that someone is searching for me.  Or at least for a Robin with my last name in Maryland.  Thank goodness there are plenty of Robins (with the same last name as I have) in Maryland.  A quick search turned up 67.  Seeing that makes me wonder if I should be more careful about protecting who I am and where I live and play.  That cat is probably out of the bag and I’m not sure I can put it back in.  Once loose, it’s difficult to entice cats back into any situation that involves confinement (provided you were lucky enough to get them in there in the first place).

Waiting their turn.
Waiting their turn.

It was good to see that someone was searching for a Massey Ferguson tractor.  It would be even better if they were looking to buy one as we’ve decided to sell ours.  Anyone interested?

Drowsy.
Drowsy.  (Painting-like effect added in Photoshop.)

The term that fascinated me the most was “symbolism of seeing a golden glow at sunset.”  The first thing that showed up when I did the search was the Hesperides, goddesses of the evening and the golden glow at sunset.  They were given the care of the golden apple tree that Gaia gave to Hera, and had a dragon (Ladon) to help them with that task.  In case you’re interested, their names are Aegle, Erytheia, Hesperia, and Arethusa.  The Hesperides are said to be the source of the golden glow we see at sunset.

Let's look up instead of down. (In the woods.)
Let’s go out to the woods and look up for a change.

My top five search terms are:

  1. evening walk quotes
  2. breezes at dawn
  3. i took a walk in the woods and came out taller than the trees
  4. breezes at dawn blog
  5. the breezes at dawn

That’s what I get for using part of a Rumi quote to name my blog.

There's usually plenty of greenery to be found in the woods.

The search I found most confusing is “carl reiner.”  Oh, I know who Carl Reiner is.  I just don’t know what he has to do with my blog as I can’t recall ever posting about him.  Ah-ha!  Mystery solved.  I once used a Carl Reiner quote.

People are beginning to search for what to do with Easter eggs, and somehow or another it is leading them here.  One of my most popular posts on Bountiful Healing (my first WordPress blog) is Red beet eggs revisited simply because people don’t know what to do with all those hard-boiled eggs.  I’m not sure why the image isn’t showing so I’ll post it here:

Aren't they pretty?

For those more interested in what’s happening outside rather than some of the details on the inner workings of my blog, the days have been seasonably warm (50’s and 60’s, 70’s tomorrow) and the nights have been seasonably cool (upper 30’s to somewhere in the 40’s).  The grass is greening (and growing which means mowing season might not be too far off, but I don’t want to think about that right now).  The mega flock of blackbirds have left our area, perhaps heading north.  The red-winged blackbirds who are staying are settling in the marshes.  Except for the goldfinches, the birds seem to have abandoned the feeders.

Do you remember the magnolia we transplanted from the woods to the scrounger’s garden last year?

What's this?
What’s this?

I thought it was dead, but some of my blogmates suggested leaving it to see if it just needed to rest for a while.  I think they may have been right.  It is showing signs of life (as shown in the image above).  I was going to leave it no matter what because I like the shape of the bare branches.  It will be lovely to see it sprout leaves and flowers, if that is what it has decided to do.

A glo-glo after the rain on Saturday.

I guess that’s it from the Wabi-Sabi Ranch on this beautiful Monday.  Thank you for dropping in and joining me on another walk.  Some of the images are from the weekend (mostly the crocuses).  I hope you’re not tiring of the crocuses.  We’re in that in-between stage, where the green is just starting pop up between the browns, and the crocuses are the prettiest thing around for now.  I’m waiting to see which will bloom first: the daffodils or the periwinkle.  I’ll be sure to let you know.

I think we’ll have a nice sunset tonight.  It’s at 7:10 PM if you want to meet me at the Point.  A jacket or sweatshirt ought to be good enough to keep you warm.  It’s relatively warm with very little breeze.  See you there!

A gathering.
A gathering.

Be good, be kind, be loving.  Just Be.  🙂

Today’s joys:  A walk down to the Church in the Shire and back; the lovely, almost floral scent to the air; a pair of doves in the woods; unpacking and putting things away in our newly renovated yoga room; time to read and relax before dinner.

Author:

Robin is... too many things to list, but here is a start: an artist and writer; a photographer and saunterer; a daughter and sister and granddaughter; a friend, a partner, a wife, a mother, and a grandmother; a gardener, a great and imaginative cook, and the creator of wonderful sandwiches.

  1. Sun. Sun over the weekend. All the birds were out in full voice. Lovely early morning and late evening. Seems like all living things had a big smile on their “faces”.
Watch for me waving at sunset…I’ll hustle Molly and The German to get there in time on the bridge – it’s been pink and orange delights.

  2. I have never looked at my search engine terms – I didn’t even know there was such a thing to be looked at. I had to go searching to find it, realising yet again I rarely visit the stats page at all. Such an intriguing concept – even though I doubt my blog would turn up anything even vaguely suitable.

It is lovely to see Lady Spring is coming near – such a surprise to see a photo of your surroundings without any snow. Doesn’t it happen quickly! Our weather changed abruptly two days ago and Autumn arrived with an alacrity and severity that said Winter was fast on her heels!
This morning while brushing Orlando I noticed his coat has suddenly and abruptly thickened and fluffed out, not a good sign for a mild winter!

    1. You never know, Pauline. Sometimes our search engine terms turn up some interesting stuff. I don’t spend much time with the numbers on my stats page, but I do get curious about what brought people to my blog.

Enjoy your Autumn. 🙂 We have some snow in the forecast for Friday. Winter’s last gasp, I think, but you never know with Old Man Winter. Sometimes he doesn’t know when to leave.

  3. I hope the same for beautiful Christine, that she is having an after-life adventure equal or better than any she had during her lifetime. I like the idea of search engine haiku, and yours is quite lovely. It’s so nice to see spring has finally arrived on the East Coast. All we have is rain and dreary skies here in the south of China. Enjoy the rest of your Monday. It’s Tuesday morning here, and off to work I go. 🙂

  4. I just love meandering along with you Robin. I don’t need a tractor. Glad to see the beauty all around. I’ve seen the search engine terms, some of them scare me, some of them make me laugh, some of them I fully understand. So goes life, eh? 😉 Happy Monday evening!

    1. Are you sure you don’t need a tractor, CM? 😉 Thank you. And yes, so life goes. Search engine terms can be as wacky and wild (or as dull and boring) as life is at times.

  5. Never tired of seeing your crocus! They are so beautiful. And the birds are on their way – good to know. They are late this year. They must have known we’re still frozen up here. 😉

  6. So much one can find when searching on internet. And reading blogs. I didn’t know that the name of your blog was a Rumi quote. And then I look at your pictures and get a lovely sense of spring coming up. Beautiful photos, Robin – in Maryland. I love the haiku by the way.
