Sharing with gratitude

Painting with fog
Painting with fog.  (Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.  June 2012.)

Sister, there are people who went to sleep all over the world last night, poor and rich and white and black, but they will never wake again.  Sister, those who expected to rise did not, their beds became their cooling boards, and their blankets became their winding sheets.  And those dead folks would give anything, anything at all for just five minutes of this weather or ten minutes of that plowing that person was grumbling about.  So you watch yourself about complaining, Sister.  What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it.  If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.  Don’t complain.

It is another hot and steamy day here on the Wabi-Sabi Ranch.  We had about three-quarters of an inch of rain overnight and this morning, and it’s the rain that has made things really steamy.  Since we are so badly in need of rain, it makes no sense for me to sit here and whine about the humidity.

A note about the images for this post:  I’m using pictures from our trip to the Canadian Maritimes (we visited New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia) and Maine back in June of 2012.  Yesterday’s and today’s photos are all from June 10th when M and I set out from the cabin where we were staying to visit Meat Cove.  The owner of the cabin recommended visiting the beach there if we had the time so we made the time.  When we left our cabin that morning, the world was shrouded in fog.  As we crossed over the mountain, we left the fog behind us.  It was a beautiful, breathtaking sight.

If you wish to see more from the trip, please visit my old blog, Life in the Bogs, and do a search for Thursday Travels.  It was an after-the-fact travelogue of sorts that I didn’t get around to finishing.  I still have a ton of pictures from that trip that never made it to the old blog or this blog.  You can also follow along with the posts I made as we traveled, beginning with this one.

Looking back.
Looking back.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s move on to the sharing part of this post.  Cee always has some good questions, and this week’s Share Your World is no exception.

If you were the architect of one existing building, which building would you select?

This is a tough one because there are so many beautiful buildings in the world.  Some I’ve had the pleasure of visiting, and some I’ve only seen through the magic of photography, television, or the internet.  Since it can be any building, I’m going for the Taj Mahal because it is a place I would love to visit someday.  On a practical note, I wouldn’t mind being the architect of my current home so I could tweak the floor plan to open things up more.

What color do you feel most comfortable wearing?

I’ve never considered myself a princess, but… pink.  Some shades of pink just suit me.  I also love neon colors.  Think beach type shirts that come in bright oranges, pinks, greens, and yellows.  Not all the colors at once, mind you.  Turquoise is a lovely color, too, and I’ve noticed just about everyone looks good in it.  Purple, my favorite color, unfortunately doesn’t suit my coloring at all.

What is something you learned in the last week?

I had an interesting Note from The Universe this morning that mentioned how “you are your life’s only variable,” and that brought about an epiphany that I hope will stick and help me with some much-needed changes.  I get in my own way at times, and become insistent on sticking with what it easiest rather than doing the work to gain what is best.

Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am grateful for time with family and friends, a day at the beach, a bike ride or two, and a couple of really nice days when the heat and humidity and bugs gave us a break.  I am looking forward to whatever comes my way during the last bit of this week, including a rocket launch from Wallops and maybe another day at the beach or a bike ride or two.

That wraps things up for this week’s Cee’s Share Your World.  Thanks, Cee.  It was fun, as always.

From another point.

Thank you so much for stopping by today.  I hope all is well in your world, and that your Thursday has had some delightful moments.

Today’s joys:  Much-needed rain; watching the Kingbirds and Eastern Bluebirds; a muskrat swimming across the pond; lemon-cucumber infused water; sunflowers in a vase; lunch with M.

  1. Thanks for a watery update on things.
I love water … In all of its forms. It is fun to photograph and watch. Water does amazing things and represents life. I feel very fortunate to be able to live near lots of water (lakes and rivers).

    1. You’re welcome, Bearyweather. And thank you. 🙂 I love water, too. Almost every house we’ve owned has had a water element to it (from the Ohio River to ponds and creeks), and it’s usually the water element that influenced our decision to buy. Hence, the willingness to do whole-house renovations. Next time I’m just gonna go for a condo at the beach. lol!

  2. Sister, just five minutes, that’s all we need, those of us who’ve left this fog and sunshine planet, just five minutes, to smell the fresh earth, to hear the surf. Just five minutes. Robin, I love it!
