We’re waiting for Arthur here on the Eastern Shore. Who is Arthur, you might wonder? Well, those of you on the east coast of the U.S. probably already know. For the rest of you, Arthur is a hurricane (he had hurricane status last time I checked) currently approaching the coast of North Carolina.
It has been searingly hot this week. I can’t remember the last time it rained. The earth is turning to dust. The trees are droopy. The garden vegetables are drying out. Farmers have been unable to plant their soybeans, and the fields of corn look wretched.
If Arthur brings us some rain, we will be most grateful for it.
Clouds build on the horizon. Thunder rumbles in the distance. But it’s all show and no drip. There were some storms south of us this morning, but they didn’t make it here.
My sister-in-law and I went to Assateague Island yesterday to beat the heat. It was a refreshing ten degrees cooler on the beach than here on the ranch (where we reached a high of 99). The ocean temperature was said to be 77 degrees, but it felt cooler than that to me. Whatever the real temperature, it was cooling and wonderful. The water was rough and choppy, but that made it fun.
That’s about it from me on this hot, dry, dusty Thursday. Thank you for stopping by today. I’m going to do a rain dance this evening, and hope that brings some of the rain from an approaching cold front or from Arthur. Please feel free to join me. We did get some rain, eM, and it cooled off for a day or two before the heat returned. We still need rain and are hoping tonight’s storms will bring some. So far, it looks like it will miss us.

When I saw the storm track, my first thought was “Robin gets her first hurricane this week”
Then my daughter wailed – no fireworks for us on Friday…

Thank you, Marie. 🙂 Arthur gave us enough rain to perk things up. The winds weren’t bad, either. I think we had worse winds during some of the winter storms. That said, I know we really didn’t experience Hurricane Arthur. Just a brush from the edge of the storm as it headed north and east.

I am watching Arthur, because a very good friend and her family are vacationing on Roanoke Island this week. I shall pray for rain, in a reasonable quantity, with less wind.

We had a slight cool off after Arthur came through, Elisa, but we didn’t get the cold front that swept things out up north. I was hoping we would. Ah well. I am satisfied with what we did get, and thankful that our brush with a hurricane was only a brush. 🙂

Thank you, Gunta! That’s high praise, coming from the Queen of Waves. Your shots are always so wonderful. I took mine while I was swimming in the water. I have a little waterproof camera that likes to get out in the ocean every now and then. Someday I’ll figure out how to catch the inside of a curl (although our waves are usually not big enough for that).
Arthur did, in fact, bring the right amount of rain. 🙂
