Most days I live awed by the world we have still, rather than mourning the worlds we have lost. The bandit mask of a cedar waxwing on a bare branch a few feet away; the clear bright sun of a frozen winter noon; the rise of Orion in the eastern evening sky — every day, every night, I give thanks for another chance to notice. I see beauty everywhere; so much beauty I often speak it aloud. So much beauty I often laugh, and my day is made.
~ Paul Bogard, The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light
A couple of days ago, after the storms moved through, we were left with some clouds that created amazing and breathtaking art in the sky.
Standing on the shore at the Point, I felt small in comparison to the sky, the clouds, and the water in front of me stretching out to where the sun disappears.
Some of the clouds behind me were almost as dark as night, and I thought it might rain, but the storms moved off to Elsewhere.
The skies can be so fantastically dramatic here. Colors sweep, swirl, stretch, brush, and take over the sky and water at sunrise and sunset.
We had a bonfire here on the ranch yesterday, and I was reminded of the sunset as I watched the flames dance.
I just wanted to share a few moments of this awesome sunset with you. Thank you so much for dropping by. There are enough clouds in the sky this evening to create more color and drama. I’ll be out on the dock. Come on over if you like. M and I are making a vegetarian lasagna for dinner. We can enjoy it after sunset, along with a glass of wine (or whatever your drink of choice may be).
Be good, be kind, be loving. Just Be. 🙂
Breathtaking, absolutely breathtaking! Thank you for these photos, and for the glass of wine as we watched the sunset. You are a perfect hostess.

We had drama in the sky during the day today…I bet if I had a horizon we’d have a spectacular sunset tonight. Yours was certainly beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome, Dawn. And thank you. 🙂 You don’t need a horizon for a spectacular sunrise or sunset. I watched (and photographed) some amazing sunsets through the trees when I lived in Ohio (where we had no open sky or horizon).

What beauty there is each morning, each evening, when we take the time to see. And what startling rich color. I so agree with you too – about watching and feeling so small. I feel the same way when I’m in the desert and watch as the sun disappears form view, the world spread out before me, the sky turning dark. It;s an indescribable emotion!

I can only imagine what it must be like in the desert, Bo. Hopefully I’ll get to see that some day. 🙂
