What is more beautiful than a road? It is the symbol and the image of an active, varied life.
~ George Sand
M and I went on a mini-adventure over the weekend. Our new flooring was delivered to a company in Newark, Delaware, and we went on a road trip to pick it up. We took our bicycles along with plans to go for a ride or two.
There is really not a lot to tell. We found the flooring company and loaded 600 lbs. of flooring into our car. All the exercise and strength training I’ve been doing paid off. Each box weighs 40 lbs. and I had no trouble lifting and carrying them.
After picking up the flooring, we went to Susquehanna State Park near Havre de Grace, Maryland, for a bike ride. It was a gorgeous day. We arrived there late in the afternoon which didn’t give us as much time as we would have liked. Sunset comes earlier now, but we managed to fit in about 90 minutes of riding before we had to give up.
I didn’t take many photos because of the time shortage, and the lack of light. You’ll have to take my word for it that it’s a beautiful park. I hope we get a chance to go back to hike some of the trails.
We had dinner in Havre de Grace, and spent the night at a hotel near there.
The next day, on our way home, we stopped In St. Georges, Delaware, to take a ride on the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal Trail. The trail isn’t finished yet. When it is, it will connect the Delaware River to the Chesapeake Bay. The canal, of course, already does that for watercraft.
And now, an announcement…
My daughter-in-law, Meredith, has started blogging regularly again at her blog, La Maison Charmante. Do me a favor and head on over to have a look. She’s recently started a series called 99 Days of Holidays. Meredith will be posting ideas of things to do to prepare for the holidays. I’m betting there will be lots of fun DIY projects, and I already know there will be recipes. And if that’s not your thing but you’re just curious, you might also get a look at what Meredith has been doing with the house at Breezy Acres in the Bogs. We gave her and M the Younger almost free rein (and free reign) over the place, at least in terms of decorating and landscaping. Meredith has exquisite taste so I have no worries about what she has done, has planned, and might already be doing. (If you visit Meredith’s blog and click on Previous Entries, you’ll be able to have a peek at some of the changes she’s planning and/or already made.)
While you’re visiting Meredith, do me another favor, please, and leave her some comment love. Thank you. ♥
That should do it from me for today. We are having another gorgeous day here on the Eastern Shore. We never had this much sunshine in the Bogs. I’m almost wishing for a couple of days of a nice, steady rainfall. We do need it. There doesn’t appear to be much hope for rain in the near future. Maybe by the weekend.
Thank you for stopping by, and joining me on another bike ride. I hope this last day of September has been good to you.
I forgot to mention that I’m using Lulu more often these days. My good camera is not feeling well. I can get it to work, but it takes some maneuvering. I hope it hangs in there for a while as I can’t afford to buy a new camera right now. Fixing it is not an option as it would cost more than it’s worth. Phooey.
Be good, be kind, be loving. Just Be. 🙂
Perfect time of year for roads! (and must travel over to see Meredith’s blog)

“What is more beautiful than a road? It is the symbol and the image of an active, varied life.” Robin, I glanced at the first photo and this quote on your blog last night before going to bed and dreamed I was running down a road at night with my dog. I was traveling so fast that my running shoes made sounds as I turned the bends. I haven’t had this much fun in a dream in a long time – thanks for the inspiration!
