We’re having our first guests here at the Wabi-Sabi Ranch this weekend.  The house is still a mess with a great deal left to unpack and organize, but when our friends called and asked if we were up for company this weekend, I did not hesitate to say, “Yes!”

A good friend is a connection to life — a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.

M and I have good friends who have lived in the Annapolis (Maryland) area for many years.  They were on the plus side when we were making lists of the positives and negatives of moving to the Eastern Shore.  Annapolis is only about 2 hours or so from where we’re living now.  I am looking forward to seeing them.

Life is not sucking at the moment.  I’ve managed to get a few things in order this week.  A lot of our stuff is going into storage in the attic.  It would be easier to get rid of it, but I’m not the only decision maker around here.  I figure we can put it up there, forget about it, and do something about it a year or so from now.  At least it’s out of the way.

Bedroom 3, as we’re referring to it, is cleaned up enough that our friends will be able to sleep in there if they decide to stay the night.  That meant putting my clothing away.  As I was hanging things in what is now my closet, I gave a great deal of thought to how much clothing I need.  Although I did donate a lot before the move, I could stand to lighten up this load even more.

I am thinking about incorporating these colors, the greens and greenish-grays, into our home.

For instance, I don’t think I will need nearly as many sweaters and sweatshirts as I needed in the Bogs.  And the thermal underwear?  Probably not useful here at all.

Some of that will end up stored in the attic.  Should we decide at some future date to move back to the Bogs, sweaters, sweatshirts, and thermal underwear might come in handy.

Well, that’s about it from the Wabi-Sabi Ranch for today.  Thanks for stopping by.  I am thrilled to be able to tell you that the air conditioning was fixed yesterday.  It was originally scheduled for today, but the company had a cancellation and I jumped at the chance to have it done a day early when they called to ask.  The atmosphere in the house is much improved.  It’s improving outside as well.  A cold front moved through this afternoon, and cooled things off.

Before the air conditioning was fixed, the cats spent all their time seeking a breeze and shade.

Have a great weekend!  Be good, be kind, be loving.  Just Be.  🙂

  1. Good friends are just that; how lucky you are! I love the idea of using the greens and greenish-grays into your house, a great connection between inside-outside. But before you give away your sweaters and thermals, I will warn you that I was often colder in southern coastal Virginia in January than I ever was in Pittsburgh. There is something about that damp cold wind that pierces more than frosty cold winter wind. Wait a year before you decide 🙂

    1. Good idea, Lynn. 🙂 I’m going to store most of this stuff for now. If I find I don’t need it here, I might move it back to the Bogs at some later date since I can store it in the attic there.

  2. Great to catch up Robin, and good news about your friends coming to visit,… (and the air conditioning being repaired too) …. Loved the shot of the weathervane, a firm statement pointing the way… and the multi-petaled rose, showing off it’s beauty… not in a ‘vane’ way of course… (apols!! 😉 ) …. have yourself a wonder-filled weekend. and many happy new trails.. xPenx

  3. I just love the photo of the rose, nicely done. I have a friend in Maryland too – I think it is a good idea to hang on to those sweaters and such. I remember her mentioning some chilly and even a few snowy days this past winter. How are the kitties adjusting to their new home? The one in the photo looks fairly content!

    1. Thank you, Karma. 🙂 They did have some snow here this past winter. I was here for a little of it, and it does get pretty chilly, especially with the wind coming off the water. I’ll hang on to the stuff for now, and decide after our first winter or two. I think some of it can go into storage since I have so much.

  4. Robin, somehow I seem to have “lost” the email subscription to Breezes at Dawn… I thought that you didn’t have internet access yet… well, happy to find you again here in WabiSabi land… 🙂

    1. So glad you found me again, Kathy (PP). 🙂 I lose email subscriptions from time to time, too. I have no idea why that happens, and it sometimes takes me a while to realize I haven’t heard from a particular blogger in a while which cues me to go look at my subscriptions.

  5. Oh what a stunning rose, and I love the green and greenish-gray color scheme you might pick for your home. It’s inspiring when we can bring the outdoors in with us. It sounds like you’re making good progress settling in – friends coming over, air conditioning installed, and cats claiming their sunbathing spots. Yes! 🙂

  6. I’ve been reading back through your posts to see what I’ve missed. Can’t wait catch up even further. Gosh, do I know what it’s like to move and try to get settled in a new home!

    1. Good to see you again, Kathy M! I’m sure you do know what it’s like. Your move was much bigger than my move. Settling in a new state is challenging. Settling in a new country must be super challenging. 🙂
