The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of color.
~ Hans Hofmann
In case you haven’t heard, Karma has challenged us with a new photo hunt. Well, perhaps it’s not a hunt exactly, but it is a challenge. A fun and, for me, easy challenge as it involves color. In Colors of Your World, Karma has asked us to choose a color we are drawn to, post three (or more) photos featuring that color, and if you want a bonus challenge, do a little research on the color and share what you find. The deadline is Sunday, April 28, but you know how Karma is about deadlines and rules. Just let her know if you need a little extra time.

I love all colors. I truly do. I have gone through all kinds of color phases (something that becomes apparent if you look in my closet). I’m currently in a blue phase when it comes to clothing. A few years ago, it was pink.

But if I have to pick a favorite, the color I am most drawn to is, and always has been, purple.

When I was a teen, my mother let me decorate my room. It was pretty much all purple by the time I finished, or as much purple as I could find. The walls were painted purple. I had a purple shag carpet on the floor, and a purple comforter on my bed. My favorite outfit (a sizzler) was purple, and my favorite platform shoes contained three shades of purple. (Can you tell what decade I was in?)

Way back in 2007, I did a series of blog posts on my other blog, Bountiful Healing, about colors (appropriately called The Color Series). If you’re interested in what I found out about the color purple, visit Purple Craze. Take your time. I’ll wait for you to return.

Maybe I’ll bring The Color Series over to this blog someday. It would be nice to have some of my favorites all in one place.

I won’t eat any cereal that doesn’t turn the milk purple.
~ Bill Watterson

Well, that’s more than the required three. I should quit while I’m ahead. Thank you for stopping by and exploring the color purple with me. I hope you’ll participate in Karma’s photo hunt and show us the color that speaks to you the most.
Be good, be kind, be loving. Just Be. 🙂
such yummy purple … i can just imagine your purple room … awesome! when i was a teenager i thought i was different to other people around me but every now and then i would see someone else who was ‘purple’ (was i seeing an aura?) and i would feel comforted that there were other purple people in the world … and this had no relationship to the Purple People Eater song either!

I think you may have just discovered purple in the same decade as me (I think we may be exactly the same age, sssshhhh….). I made a point of not reading your Colours of Your World post before I had written mine, and now I’m really glad that I didn’t, as my post also features purple. I popped over to Bountiful Healing too; I didn’t know you in 2007 and had no idea that you had looked into the meaning of colours, which is what I am doing at the moment.
Love the purple shades of flowers, the purple wellies are fabulous, and is that Miss Maddie riding her purple bike? 🙂

Close. That’s Emma on her bike, but it was taken a few years ago so she may have been close to Miss Maddy’s current age. Looking into the meaning of colours is fun, isn’t it? And very interesting.

Aha, that’s why I thought it was Maddy, I knew she was the youngest. 🙂

Hah!! Loved the trip to purple land, Robin, and of course the ‘carpet of purple’ was my favourite, followed close second, by your socks.. . 😉 … When we first married, we had a flat, comprising of a lounge, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen … the bedroom we painted a deep purple, and I bought a massive quilt for the bed, with a swirling pattern of differing shades of purple… Ah ’twas wonderful… Purple days, purple haze… happy trails my friend. xPenx

I had a purple room too as a kid. Well, it was more lavender because my Mom wouldn’t it be really PURPLE…you know? I am thinking about Karma’s challenge. I’d like to take new photos for it..but my world has been brown and grey and wet. We’ll see what I can up come in the coming week.

I am reclaiming purple on my own terms. Growing up, my mom LOVED purple (and still does). She decorated everything and anything in purple, and gave me a purple bike even when I asked for a blue one. It was purple overload. Now, though, I’m slowly returning to purple. It is an awesome colour, and to make things come full circle, I’m even wearing a full-on purple outfit to an awards ceremony tomorrow (purple dress AND purple boots). My mom will be so proud. 🙂

Hi Robin. I also love purple. Our New Brunswick flower is the purple violet and I have collected items with that motif for years. I keep them in my themed guest room and bring them out in spring to decorate. I love the purple bike. The photo captures the word ‘wobble’! Jane

Thank you, Jane. 🙂 Our purple violets just started blooming. I love seeing their little purple faces among the greens of the grasses or next to the yellow of the dandelions.

Finally starting to come look at the color posts! I love purple too – definitely a close second to my chosen color. Your photos are gorgeous. I would’ve loved to see a photo of you in your dress!! My hubby still remembers seeing me in an outfit that was very much of “my” decade (the 80’s) – all pink tunic shirt, stretchy leggings and pumps, LOL! Thanks for playing along and starting off the posts.

Thank you, Karma! And thanks again for hosting another hunt. It was fun. 🙂 As for a photo of me in my purple dress, I don’t think one exists anymore. If it does, nobody seems to know where it is. My parents moved and after Mom died, no one kept track of things. I don’t know if the photos were all thrown away before the move, or if they’re hiding in storage. Perhaps someday someone will find them. 🙂
